AlWilda Jane McBroom

AlWilda Jane (Gorman) McBroom was a woman with a big heart for helping people. She went to Heaven on July 22nd 2026, to continue her quest in bringing joy to everyone she met.

She will be missed by all who knew her.

Jane, to all who knew her, was born on July 12, 1930, at home in Cheyenne County, Kansas.

She was the third child of twelve born to Billie & Edith Orel (McNary)Gorman. She passed away at Locust Grove Village in La Crosse, Kansas.

Jane married Elmer Leroy Hawpe on October 1, 1949, in Burlington, Colorado. They had 5 Children. She later married Marvin McBroom in Scott City, Kansas, on May 21st, 1976.

Jane was a big supporter of the military, as both her husbands, her brothers, & her only Grandson were all in the military. She began as a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 6882 of Colby, Kansas in 1956, then transferred to the VFW Post 7773 of Scott City in 1958. She helped with many projects over the years and held many offices for the local Auxiliary.

She helped with Bingo and treats at Park Lane Nursing Home as a volunteer and later found herself a job filling the food trays in the kitchen. She enjoyed visiting with the residents there and always knew everyone or did by the end of the conversation.

Jane raised her kids to be hard workers and to be kind to people by setting an example in helping others in need. She enjoyed cooking for her kids and grandchildren and anyone else that showed up at the dinner table. Her family meant the world to her.

Jane is survived by her son, Francis Dean (Jannice), Hawpe, two daughters, Lola (David) Horner, Nancy (Dale) Urban, Brother: Loren Gorman Sisters: Leta Gillespie, Vera K Gorman, and Bonnie Irene McQuillan. Along with, Five Grandchildren, Eight Great Grandchildren, & one Great Great Grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, infant children Allen Ray Hawpe and Linda Jo Hawpe, Granddaughter: Jennifer Michelle Horner, Brothers: Earl Linn Gorman, Leonard Ike Gorman, William Henry Gorman, Billie Murrel Gorman, Sisters: Irma Idell Gorman, Mary Lurinda Litchfield, Connie Jean King.

A Celebration of Life will be at 10:30 a.m Saturday, August 1, 2026, at the First Christian Church at 701 Main St, Scott City, KS 67871, Scott City, Kansas, with Steve Payne presiding.

Memorials in Lieu of Flowers may be made to the Fort Dodge Soldiers Home or the American Cancer Society in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home, PO Box 553, Scott City, Kansas, 67871.

The family has requested a private inurnment at Scott County Cemetery in Scott City, Kansas.
