Clyde Leroy Schinnerer

Clyde Leroy Schinnerer was born August 15, 1926, to Newton William and Mary Ella Prior Schinnerer. He reached his eternal goal on April 15, 2025.

Clyde was born in his grandparents’ house near Garden City, Kansas, and grew up in Friend, Kansas, where his parents owned a small store and later a small farm. Clyde graduated from Scott Community High School in Scott City, Kansas, in 1944 and, while most men his age were asked to serve in the military, the US government asked Clyde to stay at home and work on the farm to support the country and the war effort.

Clyde was an active member in his local 4-H club beginning in 1939. In 1947 he won the state tractor maintenance competition and earned a trip to Chicago for the national 4-H club congress.

He continued as a junior leader and then community leader of the Lake Wide-A-Wake club.

In 1954, Clyde married Glenda Viola Thomas, and they raised six children on the farm and in Scott City, Kansas.

Clyde chaired the Scott County Soil Conservation District board and served on the Water Resources Committee of the Kansas Association of Soil Conservation Districts. He chaired the Scott County Agricultural Extension Council and served on the board of the Scott County Farm Bureau. He served on a number of other boards and committees for the betterment of the farming industry. Clyde was a Dekalb seed dealer for most of his farming career.

Clyde was a self-taught scholar of the Bible and spent many hours studying, teaching Bible classes, leading singing, and preaching. He served as an elder of the church of Christ in Scott City. He directed Bible camps at Lakeside in Scott County and at Tri-State Christian Youth Camp in Stratton, Nebraska. He directed numerous Vacation Bible School sessions and area-wide Christian encampments.

Clyde enjoyed woodworking, reading about new things, and studying the Bible.

Clyde is survived by his wife, Glenda; children, Tonda Stafford (Barry), Mark Schinnerer (Linda), Leah Ries (Barry), Donna Fore (Bron), Lisa Reed (Boyd), and Steven Schinnerer (Jenni); 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Keith and Kenneth and sister, Janice; and three grandchildren.
