Dean E. Wiegers, age 91, passed away on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at the Wichita County Health Center in Leoti, Kansas. He was a member of the Leoti community since moving from Manitou Springs, Colorado in 1956. A farmer/rancher by trade, he was deeply involved in the community; Leoti Rough Riders Saddle Club, Kansas Western Horsemans Association, Leoti Rodeo Club, the National Rifle Association, Rocky Mountain Elk Federation, Wichita County School Board, Wichita County Deputy, Weather Spotter/Government Weather Reporter, Hunter Education Instructor, 4-H Leader and superintendent for 60+ years, parade organizer for several years, Wichita County Outdoorsman, and spreading Christmas cheer as Santa.
On September 5, 1954, Dean married Lorna Lou Ames in Crowley, Colorado. She passed away on May 23, 2012.
Survivors include, his children, Deana & Gerald Leverett of Leoti, Kansas, Mike & Kathy Wiegers of Manhattan, Kansas, Russ & Cathy Wiegers of Leoti, Kansas, his sister, Dona & John Waddell of Chritiana, Pennsylvania, one brother, David & Mariel Wiegers of Goodland, Kansas, one sister-in-law, Lou Hepler of Marshalltown, Iowa, one brother-in-law, Norman Ames of Leoti, Kansas, his grandchildren, Ryan Reh of PrettyPrairie, Kansas, Dustin & Anna Wiegers of Round Rock, Texas, Julee & Roy Beedy of Leoti, Kansas, Nicole & Paul Moore of Olathe, Kansas, Grant & Katisha Wiegers of St. Francis, Kansas, eleven great-grandchildren, Colten and Parker Reh, Avery and Hadley Wiegers, Brian and Henry Moore, SammiJo, Jordi, and Titus Wiegers, Taylor and Talon Beedy, and one great great-granddaughter, Alayna Alvarado.
Dean is preceded in death by his parents, wife, three brothers, Buck Hepler, Bud Wiegers, Jim Wiegers, one sister, Jackie Garrett, and two sisters-in-law, Yvonne Ames, and Sandra Quartemont.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 13, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Leoti, Kansas. Interment will follow at the Leoti Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Saturday April 11, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Sunday April 12, from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Price & Sons Funeral Home in Leoti, Kansas.
Memorials may be given to “Wichita County 4-H,” “Wichita County Fire/EMS,” or the “Wichita County Historial Society,” in care of Price & Sons Funeral Home, PO Box 161, Leoti, Kansas 67861.
