Dwight G. Krenzel, 89, passed away peacefully at his home on July 9, 2026.
Dwight was born on September 11, 1936. He graduated from Wichita County Community High School in Leoti, Kansas, in 1954 and attended Kansas State University.
In 1958, Dwight married the love of his life, Eileen "Faye" Krenzel. Together they built a life centered on family, hard work, and adventure.
Dwight proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1957 to 1961. During his military service, he and Faye lived in Memphis, Tennessee, and Japan. He was a proud patriot of the United States, honored to serve his country and believed freedom should not be taken for granted. After serving, they returned to Leoti, Kansas, where they farmed until retiring in 1994. Farming was more than an occupation to Dwight—it was a calling that reflected his strong work ethic, perseverance, and deep respect for the land.
After retirement, Dwight and Faye fulfilled a lifelong dream of making their home in the Colorado mountains. They built a home in Cascade, Colorado, and opened The Wilderness Shoppe, a gift shop at the base of Pikes Peak. They cherished meeting travelers from around the world, listening to their stories, and sharing in their adventures. Their shop became a place of friendship, conversation, and warm hospitality.
Dwight is survived by his three children: Jay Krenzel of Augusta, Kansas, Joni (Bill) Hallman of Wildwood, Missouri, and Dea (Preston) Luebbers of Colorado Springs, Colorado; five grandchildren: Luke Krenzel, Jaime (Brandon) Hacay, Clay (Theresa) Hallman, Brendon Luebbers, and Drew Luebbers; one great-granddaughter: Sophia Hacay.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert "Charlie" and Lowana Krenzel; his beloved wife, Eileen "Faye" Krenzel; his baby brother, Lon Krenzel; his sister, Wilda Kalbach; his parents-in-law, Louie & Eva Baum; brothers-and sisters-in-law Leonard and Laverne Keifer and Don and Elaine Oberheim; his nieces, Barbara Reid and Karen Kalbach; and many cherished friends.
Dwight will be remembered for his quiet strength, humble spirit and genuine kindness. His love, wisdom, and strength will continue to inspire all who knew him. His family is deeply grateful for the example he set—a man who faithfully cared for God's gifts: the land, the people around him, and the family he loved so dearly. While we will miss him, we rejoice knowing he is once again by Mom’s side - dancing, laughing, and playing cards with friends, together forever.
Any memorial donations can be given to The Museum of the Great Plains in Leoti, Kansas.
