Obituary

Gail Edwin Sharp, 93, of Healy, Kansas, peacefully passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2026. Gail was born July 8, 1932, in Healy, Kansas to Marcus Brown (Brownie) Sharp and Alta Durham Sharp. He graduated from Healy High School in 1950. Shortly after, Gail was drafted into the US Army and served for a year in Germany and one year split between Fort Sill, Oklahoma and Fort Carson, Colorado. He then returned to Healy to his wife, Mildred, who married in 1956.

Following his return from military duty, Gail, along with his brother Gerald, established Sharp Bros. Seed Co. in Healy, Kansas. They had been raised in their father’s grain company learning the business and farming before the brothers created their own business in 1958. Throughout his many years in the seed business, Gail developed fond friendships and served on several boards, such as president of the Western Seed Association, the Kansas Seed Industry Association, and the Kansas Crop Improvement Association, and was an active board member of the Society of Range Management, American Forage and Grassland Council, American Seed Trade Association, board supervisor of the Lane County Soil Conservation, served on the board of directors at First National Bank of Dighton, and was a trustee of the Healy Methodist Church.

Gail was a man of strong faith, quiet strength, and unwavering kindness. He lived his life guided by Christian values, always putting others before himself. Whether through his work, his church, or simple everyday acts of love, he touched countless lives. He was known for his gentle spirit, wise counsel, and steady presence that brought comfort and encouragement to all who knew him.

Gail and Millie loved to travel. They accomplished traveling to all 50 states and several countries before retirement. He also loved reminiscing about his younger years playing baseball. Gail was a devoted husband of almost 70 years, a milestone they both cherished. He was also a loving father, proud grandfather, adored great-grandfather, and faithful friend. His greatest joy was his family, and he leaves behind a legacy of hard work, love, integrity, and faith that will continue for generations. He taught by example what it meant to trust in God, to work hard, and to love deeply.

Gail is survived by his wife, Mildred of Healy, Kansas; son David Sharp and wife Cheri of Greeley, Colorado; son Daniel Sharp and wife LaFonda of Healy, Kansas; grandson Tyler Sharp and wife Hanna and great-grandson Kane of Scott City, Kansas; granddaughter Kyla Hunter and husband Mitch and great-granddaughter Kendall and great-grandson Lincoln of Garden City, Kansas; granddaughter Kiara Dandurand and husband Tyler and great-grandson Declan of Healy, Kansas; step-granddaughter Paula Vulgamore and husband Brian of Scott City, Kansas and step-great-grandson Parker Vulgamore and wife Marissa of Boston, Massachusetts, step-great-granddaughter Paige Vulgamore of College Station, Texas, and step-great-grandson Camden Vulgamore of Manhattan, Kansas; step-grandson Devin Holloway of Arvada, Colorado; and many Sharp/Durham cousins.
