IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Glenda
Schinnerer
July 28, 1936 – February 5, 2026
Glenda Viola Schinnerer, age 89, passed away on Thursday, February 5, 2026, in Edmond, Oklahoma. She was the oldest daughter of Everett and Ruby Burns Thomas, born on July 28, 1936, in a small house south of Shallow Water, Kansas. The family lived on a farm west of Scott City, Kansas, for several years before settling in the family's final home in town on S. Court Street.
Glenda graduated from Scott Community High School in 1954. While in school, she enjoyed playing the violin and oboe. After graduation, she worked at several establishments in Scott City, including Dairy Queen, concession stands at the swimming pool and bowling alley, and J.M. McDonald’s clothing store.
In the summer of 1954, Glenda met the love of her life, Clyde Leroy Schinnerer. They married on December 31st of that same year. For many years, they lived on and worked a farm in southern Scott County, where they welcomed six children. In 1979, they moved into town, but maintained the farm for many more years. In 2010, they moved to Edmond, Oklahoma, where they lived their remaining years. In December 2024, Clyde and Glenda were honored by family and many dear friends in celebration of 70 years of marriage.
Glenda was active in the Scott City community for many years, volunteering as a Candystriper at the hospital and an Ombudsman at Park Lane Nursing Home. She was a very active member of the Church of Christ in Scott City, faithfully attending worship services and ladies' Bible study, teaching children in weekly Bible classes, and in Vacation Bible School each summer.
Glenda also served alongside Clyde at Tri-State Christian Youth Camp in Stratton, Nebraska, as the camp nurse. Although she didn't have formal medical training, her first aid skills were top-notch, and she was able to diagnose a case of appendicitis because she recognized the symptoms from an episode she had seen on the 1970’s TV show Emergency.
Glenda enjoyed many hobbies such as reading, especially her Bible; sewing; needlepoint; quilting; gardening; cooking; and baking. She received a Grand Champion ribbon at the Scott County Fair for a rum cake, and blue ribbons at the Oklahoma State Fair for two quilts she had embroidered and made. One quilt was of the 50 state birds. The other was of all U.S. presidents to date, and she had to create her own embroidery pattern of Barack Obama.
Glenda is survived by her children, Tonda Stafford (Barry) of Edmond, Oklahoma; Mark Schinnerer (Linda) of Carlsbad, New Mexico; Leah Ries (Barry) of Mankato, Minnesota; Donna Fore of Houston, Texas; Lisa Reed (Boyd) of Wilmington, Delaware; and Steven Schinnerer (Jennifer) of Cave Springs, Arkansas; 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers, Clyde and Ronald; sister, Wanda; and three grandchildren, Michael, Rebecca, and Cameron.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at the Scott County Cemetery, 1330 South Kansas Road, Scott City, Kansas, 67871 with Steve Schinnerer and Mark Schinnerer presiding. The family welcomes all who would like to attend.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday with the family present at Price & Sons Funeral Home, 401 S. Washington Street, Scott City, Kasnas.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to In Search of the Lord’s Way, PO Box 371, Edmond, Oklahoma 73083-9901.
