Glenda Kay Staats, age 70, passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at her home in Kansas City, Kansas. She was born on January 17, 1955, in Montezuma, Kansas, the daughter of Glen and Marjy Standley Staats. She had an associate’s degree in applied science from Garden City Community College. Glenda grew up on the family farm and in Scott City, Kansas.
She was a Kansas girl at heart and in her adult life lived in many different cities in Kansas. Glenda worked most of her life in retail customer service. Her favorite job was as a door greeter at Costco. She was fondly known as the “Cat Lady” due to her wearing cat headbands every day and drawing cat faces for kids on receipts. Glenda was a lover of cats and owned many during her lifetime.
Survivors include her Two Sons – Michael Marcy of Kansas City, Kansas, Nathaniel Gough of McPherson, Kansas, Two Daughters – Rebecca Gough of Robstown, Texas, Alexis Stortz of Beloit, Kansas, One Brother - Ron Staats of Cimarron, Kansas and Eight Grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her Parents and One Brother – Danny Staats.
Memorial Funeral Services will be held at Price & Sons Funeral Home of Scott City, Kansas, 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 30, 2025, with Steve Payne presiding.
Memorials may be written to the Heart of America Humane Society c/o Price & Sons Funeral Home, P.O. Box 553, Scott City, Kansas, 67871.
Inurnment will be in the Scott County Cemetery in Scott City, Kansas.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.Tuesday at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Scott City, Kansas.
