Gustavo Orlando Avila

Gustavo Orlando Avila, age 93, passed away on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at Wichita County Health Center Long Term Care in Leoti, Kansas. Gustavo was born July 17, 1926 in Chihuahua, Mexico, the son of Nerio & Genoveva ( Cazo ) Avila. A Leoti resident since 1960 moving from Horace, Kansas, he was retired from the former Missouri Pacific Railroad, now Union Pacific Railroad with over 40 years of service. Gustavo was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Leoti, Kansas. On June 20, 1952 he married Maria J. Gomez at Ordway, Colorado. She passed away on September 1, 1986 in Leoti, Kansas. In 1987 he married Rebecca Garcia in Leoti, Kansas. Gustavo’s surviving family includes his wife, Rebecca Avila of Leoti, Kansas. Six stepchildren including Santiago & Karen Garcia, Jr. of Leoti, Kansas, Samuel & Hortensia Garcia of Hays, Kansas, Jose Ruben Garcia of LaJunta, Colorado, Rose Marie Garcia of Garden City, Kansas, Genoveva Garcia of Garden City, Kansas and Julianna & Tomas Santos of Leoti, Kansas, a sister, Antonia Hernandez of Taos, New Mexico and twelve grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at Leoti Cemetery in Leoti, Kansas with Father Tim Hickey officiating. Friends may call from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm Tuesday and from 10:00 until Noon Wednesday at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Leoti, Kansas. Memorials may be given to the Gustavo Avila Memorial Fund and mailed to the funeral home.
