Jeff was born May 10, 1958, in Denver, Colorado. He graduated from Arvada High School in Arvada, Colorado, in 1976, where he played basketball and developed a lifelong love for the fast-paced game. His passion for the sport never faded, and he fulfilled a bucket list dream by attending a game at Allen Fieldhouse in 2023.
He earned his degree in History from the University of Northern Colorado (Go Bears!) in December 1980, a passion he carried throughout his life. Whether it was a historical novel, biography, or memoir, there was always one on his end table—right next to his Dr. Pepper Zero and Marlboros. In recent years, he found a new way to indulge his love of history through YouTube videos.
Jeff dedicated much of his life to working at various golf courses and sharing his passion for the game with others. In 2022, Jeff moved to Scott City, Kansas, where he became the Superintendent of Scott Community Golf Course, a role that brought him immense pride and joy.
Jeff had a lifelong sweet tooth, delighting in candy bars, cookies, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, or anything a 5-year-old would love. He was famous for keeping his fridge well-stocked with Hershey’s Kisses and chocolate graham cracker cookies, always ready for his 6 cherished grandchildren: Landon (14), Paisley (8), Ellie (7), Audra (5), Layla (5), and Denver (2).
Jeff loved his two daughters, Nikki (Trevor) from Willis, TX, and Alaine (Tyler) from Scott City, KS, instilling in them a deep respect and appreciation for history. Their childhood family dinners often included rounds of Presidential Trivia, inspired by the presidential placemats he got them.
He grew up in a loving, close-knit family. His mother, Marty (of Arvada, CO), and his late father, Ralph, raised their family in Arvada, CO. Jeff shared a strong bond with his brother, Greg (Kathy) of Denver, CO, and his sisters, Denise Heter (Phil) and Leslie Anselmo, both of Arvada, CO. Their visits to Scott City meant the world to him—he was always eager to show off his latest projects around the golf course or unwind with a cigar in the Smoking Lounge. He also took great joy in his four nieces, Mandy, Katie, Olivia, and Jessica, as well as his nephew, A.J.
Jeff was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Anselmo, his grandparents, Julio Anselmo & Lucille Anselmo, and Lou Novak & Helen Novak.
The family takes comfort knowing Jeff is in his white v-neck t-shirt, watching The West Wing, thinking about his lawn, with a Marlboro in one hand and a Seagram’s VO nightcap in the other.
The family will receive friends at the Scott Community Golf Course clubhouse from 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Thursday, April 24, 2025. A private Mass will take place at a later date.
