John LaCoy Jr., age 58, passed away at the Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City, Kansas, on October 17, 2025. He was born on July 14, 1967, to John “Jack” & Sharon Elizabeth Duvall LaCoy in San Antonio, Texas. He grew up as a military brat, but always called Kansas City his home town. After living in Garden City, Kansas, and Marienthal, Kansas, John and his wife settled down in Scott City, Kansas. He was a member of St. Joseph Church in Scott City, Kansas, and a member of the Chippewa tribe.
On August 9, 1991, he married Sandra LaCoy in Olathe, Kansas. They were married for almost 25 years before she passed away on May 5, 2016.
Survivors include his daughters Ashley LaCoy & David Ellis of Scott City, Kansas and Audrey & Brady Blackburn of Scott City, Kansas, his grandchildren Brogan LaCoy, Xander LaCoy, Breagan Blackburn, Jude Ellis, and Cecil Ellis, two siblings, Jeffrey LaCoy of Kansas City, Kansas and Jennifer & Tim Martin of Merced, California, and numerous nieces and nephews.
John was a dedicated nurse and touched many lives through his vocation at the ParkLane Nursing Home in Scott City, Kansas. When he wasn’t at work, he could be found watching TV or reading a book. He had a love for crossword puzzles and his teams, the Chiefs, Royals, Jayhawks, and Avalanche. Most of all, he loved being a grandpa the last nine years and took great pride in it.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, one brother - Jason LaCoy, his in-laws, Melvin & Evelyn Stegman, one brother-in-law - Stanley Stegman, and one stillborn grandson, Zane Ashton LaCoy.
Memorial services will be held at St. Mary church on October 28th, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. with Father Bernard Felix presiding. Praying of the Rosary will be held at 10 a.m..
Inurnment will be at the St. Mary Cemetery in Marienthal, Kansas, with lunch to follow at St. Mary's School.
