Linda Berg

GARDEN CITY

Linda Berg, age 90, died on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at the St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas.  She was born to Dietrich and Katherine Olfert in Montana in 1927.  At the age of 12 her mother and family prayed with her to invite Christ into her life.  Assurance of salvation came at the time of her baptism.  She belonged to the Mennonite Brethren Church and was active in the church all her life.

Linda attended Tabor and Westmont colleges and then taught elementary school for 11 years in Montana, Minnesota, and then California.  She once taught in a one room schoolhouse, and later was a principal while teaching kindergarten.  In California she married the love of her life, Ed Berg.  They were inseparable, enjoyed 55 years of marriage, and had two children, Mark, and Kay.  On many projects, Linda created the design and Ed made it come to life.

In 1973 they moved to Kansas.  Linda was a homemaker.  She was known for her hospitality, creative crafting, sewing, cooking for others, and compassionate care for others.  She made many blankets and caps for newborns.  She cared about local immigrants, translating German for them, or inviting them to the house.  Linda communicated with many missionaries, and spent many hours praying for others.  Her love for God was apparent in everything she did.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, and sisters Elsie and Marilyn.  She is survived by her husband, her brother, Elvin, her sister, Ethel, and her children, 8 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.
