Pete Paul Herrera

Pete Paul Herrera, age 85, of Leoti, Kansas, passed away on June 17, 2025. Pete was born at home in Minatare, Nebraska, on June 28, 1939. One of many children born to Ysabel Herrera and Marianna Suarez. Pete moved to Leoti, Kansas, in 1964. He worked at High Plains Feedlot as a feedlot truck driver and continued his employment there as it changed hands to Caprock LLC. Then on to Cargill Inc. He then retired to enjoy time with his family. On August 4, 1964, Pete married his beloved wife, Delores Ann Herrera. They combined their families to become a complete family with six children. Pete instilled in his children and grandchildren a loyal work ethic and a true example of Christ-like service as he served his Father in Heaven through his church callings. He is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter–day Saints.

Pete was preceded in death by his beloved wife Delores Herrera, parents Ysabel and Marianna Suarez Herrera, son Adam Daniel Herrera, grandson Pete Paul Herrera III, daughter in law Barbara Ann Herrera, son in law John Calvin Haverfield, along with many of his brothers and sisters including Frank Herrera, Tony Herrera, Rejis Herrera, Luis Herrera, Aurelio Herrera, Ebaristo Herrera, Ramona Herrera Requejo, Ruth Herrera Guerra, Loretta Herrera Hernandez, Josephina Herrera Cano, Mary Ann Herrera Maestas. Pete is survived by his family, including five children Pete Paul Herrera Jr &(Penny) of Newport News, Virginia. Bonnie Herrera of Maryville, Missouri, Esther Herrera Sturdivant & (Dennis) of Decatur, Michigan. Lillie Herrera Haverfield of Russell Springs, Kansas, Marcus Herrera & (Sylvia) of Winfield, Kansas. Isabel Herrera & (Ian) McDonald of Saint George, Utah. And siblings include Sister Monica Herrera Flores, Brothers Hermengildo Herrera, Augustine Herrera, Joseph Herrera. Thirty-four grandchildren and fifty-eight great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, and extended family.

Pete will be greatly missed for his steadfast strong faith in God, wisdom, and loving humor. The family will miss the BBQ cheeseburgers and hot dogs, and the sweetest watermelons grown or chosen by him. Pete loved to cook and provide for his family, and treasured the times when family was eating together. Dad was always sending someone to the store for fresh peaches or apples. Dad loved riding his motorcycle, hunting, fishing, listening to music, bird watching, and time spent with children and grandchildren. His love for family is unconditional! He often told stories of time spent with his brothers and sisters at home in Minatare, Nebraska. Each moment of time we all shared with dad is forever etched in our hearts. He has always looked forward to seeing and talking with friends and family each day. He would often ask you if there was anything you needed and loved to help where he could. We have that wonderful feeling that he is having a great, joyful reunion with those he met and loved that are on the other side. It only seems fitting to end with the words of one of his favorite hymns, God BE With You Till We Meet Again. Graveside services will be on August 30, 2025, at the Leoti Cemetery, followed by a luncheon which will be served by Sisters of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints of Scott City Ward.
