Robert J. Fulton

Robert John Fulton, age 70, of Las Cruces, NM departed this life for his life eternal at Three Crosses Regional Hospital, Las Cruces, NM, on February 28, 2024.  Robert’s journey began on June 12, 1953, in Gibson City, IL.  He was raised by his loving parents the late Robert J. Fulton and Betty L. Fulton. His biological mother, Leata Meyer Fulton, departed this world on June 12, 1953.

Robert was a 1971 Graduate of Melvin-Sibley High School, Melvin, IL, where he was fondly known as “Steamboat”.  Upon graduation, he decided to leave the farm he grew up on in Sibley, IL, and move to Leoti, KS.  There he met and married Gloria Medina on September 6, 1975.  From their union, he was blessed with the birth of his two wonderful children; Travis J. Fulton (Addie) and Kacie L. McKinney (Jace) both of Scott City, KS.  He married Mary Aragon Tucker on May 25, 2000 in Hawaii.  Their marriage added three beautiful stepdaughters to his life; Sabrina Reyes (Andrew) of Coppell, TX, Leah Tucker of Eagle, ID, and Ericah Schmucker of Alexandria, VA.

After giving 27 years of service to Wheatland Electric in Scott City, KS he retired in 2007.  He and Mary later moved to Las Cruces, NM where Robert spent countless hours enjoying the outdoors and working in his yard.  He loved animals, loved to tell stories, reminiscence, and in general, enjoyed engaging in conversation with friends and family.   As a member of Santa Rosa de Lima Catholic Church in Las Cruces, NM, he engaged in deepening his faith through Bible study and small group discussion.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Robert was truly a caring and humble man.  He will be missed by those who remain behind; his mother, his spouse Mary, his children and step-children, eight grandchildren: Dylan Fulton, Josh Fulton, Derek and Noah McKinney, Isabella and Seth Reyes, Christian and Ethan Schmucker, sister Karen Terry (Tim) of Linn Creek, MO and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.  He was preceded in death by his father, sister Brenda K. Osborne, and his grandparents Thurman and Florence Fulton, Earl and Melba Fischer, and John and Lizzie Meyer.
