Virginia Robbins, 90, passed away on Monday, July 6, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was born on July 5, 1936, in Oregon City, Oregon, and spent her early childhood in San Francisco during World War II before her family relocated to Scott City, Kansas after the war.
Virginia worked as a lifeguard at the old pool near Patton Park and as a telephone operator. She married Robert "Bob" Robbins on February 12, 1956, and they made their home on a farm west of Scott City on the Wichita County line. In 1968, she worked in town typing the county tax roll so the family could put in a swimming pool on the farm, and over the years she taught many people to swim there.
After Bob’s sudden death when Virginia was 47, she and her son Rick continued the daily operations of planting, harvesting, and raising cattle. In her later years, she lived in Lamar with her son and swam in her pool every day during the summer. Virginia is survived by her son Rick Robbins and daughter Pam Unruh, and she will be remembered for her forthrightness, kindness, and generosity.
